Hey Coconut Grove! Keep an eye out for one of our flyers in your mailbox! We’re offering our help to protect your beautiful oak trees by removing strangler figs before they become a bigger problem. If you spot a strangler fig growing on an oak in your yard or around the neighborhood, feel free to reach out to us or say hi if you see us out and about! 💚🌳

We’re not joking! 😱 What makes The Grove exceptional is its incredible tree canopy, made of both healthy oaks and ficuses🌳 When one tree threatens to kill another, however, we sometimes have to intervene 🤺 By selectively removing young strangler figs and banyans, we can ensure that our canopy thrives🏡 If you see a heritage tree in trouble in the Grove, shoot us a DM! 🦚

The future of our neighborhood is shaped by the people who show up for it. 🌳 Today we showed up in support of development that preserves or relocates decades-old trees rather than cutting them down. Today’s appeal at City Hall failed, and the trees on Grand Ave will be chopped down for a development site. There will be more chances to save Coconut Grove’s trees in the future. Not every ficus is a bad ficus! Our mission is to preserve the Coconut Grove canopy, and while fast growing soft wooded trees like banyans and strangler figs are often the subject of our removal campaigns, without context provided this is a disheartening cutback on a beloved and decades old tree that has provided shade to our community. If you’re cutting back a canopy tree, please make sure you’re following all of the proper permitting steps, and even more importantly… if it’s not a necessary cutting, make sure it’s the right thing for our community and our ecosystem!
